In the Maverick series, Bart wins a "thoroughbred racehorse" in a poker game. The equus caballus'due south racing name was "Golden Girl", called Goldie past Bart. This is Sickle. RE: Janice's question almost Joe Cartwright'southward horse in Bonanza. At first Joe rode a black & white pinto names Cochise. Michael Landon may accept had up to 3 different pinto's over the run of the serial. If you await very closely at the markings of Joe'due south horse over the years, they change markedly! Hope this helps!

Thank you for stopping by......

Ann Engel on June 09, 2015:

I remember seeing Andy Devine as Hopalong Cassidy'south sidekick in some of the earlier TV series and in that location were plenty of riding scenes. The COZI aqueduct started running the series and movies last year so I've been able to take hold of upward on a lot that I missed in my earlier years. The one that I would like to know about is the Cisco Kid series - Pancho rode Loco but Cisco'due south pigment horses kept changing from scene to scene within each episode. I definitely saw three dissimilar ones only it might accept been four as there were slight differences in the markings from i to the other. 1 of them fifty-fifty resembled a horse ridden by Chuck Connors in his Branded series but not 100% certain because of the broad time gap.

Randolph Scott rode a flashy sorrel with a white mane and tail. Such a beautiful site. The aforementioned horse appeared in almost all his movies

WILLIAM EVANS (author) from GARLAND, TEXAS on January 27, 2015:

Michele, I just ran across this accidentally. And so sorry it took me 17 months to respond. If you still don't know, Randolph Scott's equus caballus was Stardust. His equus caballus died at 29 years of age in '73.

Lew Larsen on Jan 27, 2015:

I had a good friend who hitch-hiked to California in 1941. He took a landscaper helpers task and one day while working in the yard of a large residence, the owner exited the business firm and fabricated modest talk with the crew. MY friend didn't recognize the homeowner until ane of his crew mates told him that information technology was Gabby Hayes. My friend said he didn't recognize him correct off because the possessor had teeth and he ever thought that Gabby acted without teeth. I have always wondered if Gabby purposely removed his dentures in order to give more personality to the character he was portraying or whether his acting ust didn't bear witness his teeth.

WILLIAM EVANS (author) from GARLAND, TEXAS on September 21, 2014:

Sgt. Preston's horse, Rex was Richard Simmons'southward (actor portraying Sgt. Preston)personal horse.

Marylee on September 13, 2014:

I would beloved to know more most the TV horses such as Fury and Flicka, Sgt. Preston's equus caballus, the only survivor of the Battle of the Little Big Horn, Comanche, as well the white horse in the movie Snowfire. and of course the Black Stallion. Basically anything horses. I saw a Disney movie once called "The Calypso Pony" and another called "Chester: the story of a horse, " virtually a horse that was trained to pull in lodge to win a competition against a tractor. Would beloved to take these 2 movies in my collection, but can't notice out anything most them.

Growing up in the fifties westerns were my first option. My favourite cowboys were John Wayne, Gary Cooper, Jimmy Stewart & Randolph Scott. As their horses go Scott's horse stood out the most! And I agree that the other actors really weren't know for their horses. Just I realised and then and confirmed it subsequently that Wayne e'er rode a very alpine horse! Groovy hub!

WILLIAM EVANS (author) from GARLAND, TEXAS on June 07, 2014:

Neat info, JT!

Jt parker on February 23, 2014:

There were really 2 horses who played silver on the Lone Ranger series. I first noticed that in ane bear witness silverish had a mole nether one of his eyes. In another show he didn't. I wrote the Alone Ranger website and was told that when Clayton Moore came back after going on strike the owner of the original argent had removed him from the bear witness. I also read where they used two white horses for several years. One of them was less friendly and did non have well to having a lot of commotion around him. Therefore in certain scenes they used the smaller balmy tapered silver

Randy Godwin from Southern Georgia on August 19, 2013:

Yes, merely I loved them as a kid, Will. It'due south tough to grow upwards and realize everything is non so articulate cutting as it appeared in the old westerns. Not enough guys wearing white hats in the real globe today. It is what it is....

WillStarr from Phoenix, Arizona on August nineteen, 2013:

Y'all got it, Randy! It was Scout.

The Lone Ranger would say, "Hullo-yo Silver, away", and Tonto would respond with, "Get 'em upward, Scout."

The old westerns were non PC at all. Indians spoke with broken English language.

Randy Godwin from Southern Georgia on Baronial xix, 2013:

Didn't Tonto-- the Lone Ranger's Indian sidekick--have a horse named Watch? Or am I mistaken? I bet Will knows.

Swell hub, by the way. :)

WillStarr from Phoenix, Arizona on Baronial 19, 2013:

Keen trivia, Michael! Thanks for sharing.

Michael Nolan on May 02, 2013:

Just a bit more than on Cadet Jones's equus caballus, Silver. Buck actually had three light grayness horses, Argent and his two doubles, Eagle and Sandy. All iii lived in a barn behind Cadet'southward house in Hollywood, and were treated as members of the family unit by Buck, his married woman Dell, and their girl Maxine. According to Dell, afterward Buck passed away in late 1942, Silver was and then saddened that he stopped eating, and and then passed away himself in 1943. (All this is from Buck Rainey's wonderful books on Jones, besides as his interviews with Buck's widow, Dell.)
